In this series of five lectures we shall examine the Golden Age of Athens in the fifth century B.C. starting with the Minoan background and ending with the fall of the Athenian Empire in 404 B.C. Among other subjects we will examine the influence of the ancient civilizations of Egypt and Mesopotamia on Greece; The Persian Wars, the flowering of architecture, scultpure and drama in Athens and finally the tragedy of the Peloponnesian war.
