THE GRAND ALLIANCE

On January 1, 1941 Hitler and his major "allies" (Italy, USSR, and Japan) controlled the Eur-Asia-African land mass from the channel coast to Tokyo and from the north cape th the Saharan Desert. Only England - weakly supported by the United States stood between him and final victory. Twelve months later on January 1st 1942 a Grand Alliance of Great Britian, The United States, and The USSR had been formed and the chances of German victory had shrunk to almost zero. In terms of industrial might, manpower, resources, raw material reserves, the Grand Alliance dwarfed those of Hitler's Germany and her allies. What brought about this spectular reversal of fortune? This will form the subject matter of this lecture series.
